A new respiratory syncytial virus vaccine has been approved in Canada for people aged 60 and older.
It is a relatively common virus, the infections caused by which are often mild and the symptoms similar to those of a cold. However, older people are more likely to suffer complications. RSV is spread through saliva, coughing and dirty hands.
This vaccine would be 82% effective against respiratory tract infections caused by the virus, but is not yet covered by the free program.
