Since May 1, 2023, vaccination against the zoster virus (shingles) has been free for people aged 80 and over and adults aged 18 and over who are immunosuppressed.
But what is the zoster virus (shingles) ? This is the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. The zoster virus (shingles) is not contagious.
This is an inactivated vaccine that is 90% effective. It reduces the risk of developing the zoster virus, but above all, it reduces the risk of developing complications attributable to it.
Complete vaccination consists of 2 doses administered 2 to 12 months apart.
What if I still develop the zoster virus? If you think you are developing symptoms of it, consult your pharmacist quickly. He will carry out an assessment and may prescribe an antiviral medication if he considers it appropriate.
